We need to become more Pro-Business:
As a tax consultant for over 20 years, I have witnessed the federal tax rate go down, yet our state taxes and fees continue to increase. With 5% of the taxpayers paying over 70% of the taxes collected, taxing our wealthiest taxpayers will only send them out of our state. These business owners actually employ a large part of our citizens. So, continued talk of taxing our rich will really hurt the state in the long run.
A less restrictive government, with “business friendly” staff members and a top-down philosophy of “Business Matters” will increase the number of businesses that are considering relocating to our area. We, as a district, are competing with Las Vegas, Reno, and Arizona, for jobs. If we make it easy and painless to build buildings and obtain permits, we can put our area at the top of the list.
Infrastructure Investment NOW:
“To not invest in our future is like refusing to fix a leaky roof in your home year after rainy year.”
Only so many buckets can fit in one space. We can only patch the same old two-lane roads so many times before we end up with quilted patchwork roads that rip our cars apart. Our interstates are a mess, yet the current legislators continue to lie and say it is the federal government’s responsibility.
California is given the money to repair and maintain our interstates as well as allocated funds for local roads through State Sales Tax and road fees. Where is that money? Good question. Squandered, mismanaged, and misdirected. I will put an end to the Interstate 80 neglect; as well as fight for more lanes on 680 and alternative routes from Sacramento to the Bay Area. This is why I totally support Prop. 1A on the November 2006 ballot.
Lets End the Marriage Penalty Tax:
As it gets harder and harder to make ends meet, the once normal “Mom’s at home” has been replaced with Mom works so our family can survive.
Our two income families, who are barely hanging on, have far less disposable income than their single income counterparts. It is time to give working families a break, before we force them out of the state.
An automatic 10% of the spouse’s income taken off the top, before taxes, is the first step in the right direction. I will continue to fight for our hard-working families and putting more in their budget.
Long Term Crime Prevention:
When do actions have no consequences? In California courts! Being soft on consequences leads to out of control kids and irresponsible young adults.
Being tolerant of lawless behavior and allowing dangerous criminals to walk the streets leaves the taxpaying citizens targets of violent crime.
A combination of increased police presence in our neighborhoods, youth programs designed to bring mentors to young men’s lives, and stiffer penalties for crime, including mandatory jail time for some types of crime involving violence and sexually perverse acts, are necessary to ensure the safety of our families, friends, children, and other loved ones.
A balanced, long-term approach to causes of gang activity in fatherless, young men, as well as severe consequences to crime, will turn the tide back to the way it was, once upon a time, in this great state.
Border Security:
A country that cannot secure its borders is at the mercy of the lowest criminal element that will forcibly manage them.
Over 20% of the illegal border crossings are by a group of convicted felons and drug smugglers. The border is made up of segments controlled by drug lords who smuggle people and drugs into the United States with no regard for the welfare of the Mexican people. They treat these people as property and do not care of the effects the drug trade has on our children.
Securing the border and stopping the flood of drugs, at any cost, should be our number one focus.
